Denizen of the Keep:
Lord Rubyn Makdonald
called Rubyn the Breakable

Device:
Offices:
Minister of Arts & Sciences
Persona:
Lord Rubyn Makdonald is the son of a traveling Scots bard and a Jewish maiden, who elected to flee local persecution of Jews in her homeland of Russia. The unlikely couple met in Holland where he was holding an extended post as a musician and she working with a theatrical troupe (as Jews in the late 1500s were welcome in that country). The marriage was not without its trials over the years, but it did produce a son who, though bright and cheerful, was sensitive, shy, and he often felt like he was caught between two heritages he feared he might never be reunited with, in a life he was not sure he was happy in despite his best efforts.
After the death of his mother from long illness, Rubyn, a burgeoning bard and scholar himself, journeyed in secret with his father to at long last visit Scotland (sneaking between Longshanks' knobby knees and under his beaky nose) where inhabitation by Jews had long been forbidden by the British crown. A firm believer of the new age that was the enlightenment and renaissance, Rubyn chafed under the suppression of his identity and his beliefs by English law and Scots clan custom.
It was not until, through his letters to colleagues and research inquiries to artisans and philosophers, that he encountered a lady of eclectic tastes (sometimes chocolate, sometimes raspberry, but usually mango) who appreciated him for who and what he really was. (For the "real" story of how they met, read Lassairfhiona's bio). Gathering his meager resources, Rubyn left Scotland and joined his lady Lassairfhiona . Already Rubyn has found much happiness with this woman who has sparked all kinds of wonderful feelings (and not that pesky itch that turned out to be poison ivy), as well as happiness and acceptance from the denizens of his new home. Alas, being a young man of much virility but also a classic "late bloomer", Rubyn has begun to be known as "Rubyn the Breakable", as the bawdy sense of humor shared among many of his new friends often makes the still-learning bard blush as red as a ripe tomato. Not that he minds. Really!
Most recently this bard has found a new focus, having self-taught himself something of the art of woodcrafting to create board games. In addition to this newfound craft, he has also been extensively researching games from many cultures and developing new ones, and teaching them to the local populace.
